This has been sheeted for weather protection and there is also some scaffolding inside the building on the nave wall. The architect will now be able to come back and have a closer inspection of the affected area and reappraise the works that will need doing.

We have continued to be very lucky with fundraising with donations coming in from the village and outside the village. The current total as at 15.4.12 for the repair fund stands at £4,629.59 which is really good. The "Spring into Action" event held on 14.4.12 contributed over £500.00 to this total. This was a poetry, prose and song evening organised and set up by Martin and Mel Franks who used their contacts and persuasion to enable us to listen to poetry and prose read by Susan Jameson and Alan Mc Mahon and songs by Charlotte Woodman. The evening was really enjoyed by the 60plus people that attended.

We have also been incredibly lucky to receive a donation to specifically cover the scaffolding costs from Jennifer Fullard. Jennifer has ancestral links with the village and obviously in particular Fullard's Farm and we are very grateful to her. (These scaffolding costs can not qualify for any grant applications as the grant bodies do not provide funding for works retrospectively).

Neil

Edited by neil - 18 April 2012 at 17:54

This little bell was found in a box which hadn't been unpacked in years.

During the late 1940s, early 1950s, I often got to visit with Oliver Anderson, who lived with his sisters, Georgina, Sofia and Rosie in what is now the Holdich Farmhouse. There was a (now gone) thatched barn on the corner on which hung the two log hooks to pull off the thatch in case it caught fire. The hooks now installed on the front of our old house, "Horseshoe Cottage" are the hooks.

Oliver's old farmhouse house was pretty run down, but he had a couple of shotguns hanging in the kitchen, which he lent me to go shoot rabbits and pigeons. Another thing I remember was a row of bells hanging in the kitchen on coil springs. I now know that these were bells to call the servants when the house was a little more "stately" than when I visited. One of the bells, the one pictured, had fallen off and Oliver gave it to me. My Uncle Dick, a cabinetmaker (who lived in what I think is now "Anchor Cottage"?) made the handle which it now has.

More if I think of it. Cheers! Hamish.

Edited by Hamish - 03 April 2012 at 05:26
